Connecting Claude
You can connect Claude, Anthropic's AI assistant, to your BreederPro account. Once it's connected, Claude can read your records and add to them. That's the fastest way to move an existing program into BreederPro. Hand Claude your spreadsheets, registry certificates, and vet records, and it fills in your animals, pedigrees, litters, and health history for you.
The connector is included on every plan, including Free. Your plan's limits (like the animal limit) still apply.
Set it up
Create a free BreederPro account at breederpro.com if you don't have one.
In Claude (claude.ai or the desktop app), open Settings → Connectors.
Choose Add custom connector.
Name it BreederPro and enter this URL:
https://breederpro.com/mcpClick Connect. Sign in with the same login you use for BreederPro, then approve access.
In a new chat, open the tools menu and make sure BreederPro is switched on.
Once you've added the connector on the web or desktop, it's available in the Claude mobile app too.
Moving your data in
Attach a file to your Claude chat and tell Claude what you want. Some examples:
- Spreadsheets: "Here is my breeding spreadsheet. Import every animal into BreederPro, match sires and dams by name, and show me the plan before you save anything."
- Registry certificates: "These are the registration certificates for my breeding cats. Add their registration numbers and build out each pedigree as far back as the certificates go."
- Vet records: "Read this vet invoice and record the vaccinations for each kitten on it."
- Litters: "Luna had her litter on March 3: four kittens, two boys and two girls. Create the litter and add them."
For big imports, ask Claude to show you what it plans to add before it saves anything. If a spreadsheet has the same animal twice, Claude can merge the duplicates for you.
Everyday use
- Weights: "Morning weights for the Luna litter: blue boy 412, red girl 398, black boy 405." Weights are recorded in grams.
- Heat cycles and reminders: "Juniper started her heat today. Remind me to check on her in three days."
- Planning a pairing: "What would the COI be if I paired Atlas with Willow?" COI is only as accurate as the pedigrees you've entered. See Pedigree Completeness & COI.
- Questions: "Which of my breeding girls are due for vaccines this month?"
- Buyers and sales: "Blue boy is going home with Sarah Jones on Saturday. Add her as a contact and place him with her." Claude records the buyer and the go-home date, the same as Place Animal in the app.
- Buyer history: "Log a call with Sarah Jones today: she'd like a blue female in the spring", "What's the history with the Garcias?" Claude adds dated entries to the contact's timeline and reads it back. It marks a buyer backed out or flagged only when you ask it to. See Contacts and the buyer timeline.
- Dates: Claude uses your account timezone (Settings > Account), so "today" and "yesterday" mean your day, not the server's. If you move, ask Claude to change it ("I've moved to Perth, update my timezone") or change it in Settings.
- Waitlist, applications, invoices and contracts: "Move the Garcias to the top of the waitlist", "Show me the applications waiting for review", "Draft a $500 deposit invoice for Sarah", "Start a pet sale contract for blue boy." These follow the same plan rules as the app.
Privacy and control
- Claude signs in as you and can only see what your account can see.
- Claude can add and update records. To fix a mistake it updates the record rather than deleting it.
- Claude can delete a record only when you ask, one record at a time. It names the exact record (for example "Luna's weight of 412 g on March 3") and waits for your yes before deleting. It can't delete in bulk, and there's a cap of 20 deletions every 10 minutes.
- Some records can't be deleted through Claude because other records depend on them: an animal that is the sire or dam of recorded offspring or has matings, a litter with animals in it, a mating with a litter, and a contact with invoices, contracts, waitlist entries or placed animals. For a duplicate animal Claude merges the two with
merge_animals. For an animal that died, was sold or stopped breeding, Claude changes its status, ownership or program instead, so its history stays. - The other irreversible actions are
merge_animalsand voiding an invoice or contract. Claude is told to confirm with you before using them. - Invoices and contracts start as drafts. Only
send_invoiceandsend_contractemail your customer, and Claude is told to show you the recipient and amount and wait for your OK first. A contract with blank fields (such as the price) isn't sent; Claude fills them withupdate_contractonce you give it the values. Declining an application through Claude never emails the applicant. Approving or waitlisting sends the applicant a short status email unless you tell Claude not to, so Claude asks first. Claude can also send a declined applicant your closing note: it shows you the exact text and sends it only after you say yes. - Billing, payouts, account members and designing your forms and contract templates stay in the BreederPro app.
- To disconnect, remove BreederPro from Settings → Connectors in Claude.
Other AI assistants
BreederPro connects through the Model Context Protocol (MCP), an open standard. Other assistants that support remote MCP connectors may work with the same URL, but Claude is the one we test with.
ChatGPT
ChatGPT can connect with the same URL (https://breederpro.com/mcp). How much it can do depends on a ChatGPT setting:
- Without Developer mode, ChatGPT only uses two read-only tools: search and fetch. It can look up your breeding programs, animals, litters, contacts, applications, invoices and these help articles, read them, and link you to the page in BreederPro. It can't add or change anything.
- With Developer mode turned on in ChatGPT's connector settings, ChatGPT sees the full BreederPro tool set, the same one Claude uses, and can record weights, add animals and so on.
Search results come only from your own account, and invoices only appear on plans that include invoicing.
