Contracts
Create contracts from templates, send them for e-signature, and keep signed copies on file -- all without needing DocuSign or HelloSign.
Contract Templates
Templates are reusable contract layouts you build once and use for every sale. Each template contains a mix of text blocks (your contract language) and field placeholders (values filled in per contract).
Starter Templates
BreederPro includes four starter templates you can clone and customize:
- Puppy Sale with Health Guarantee
- Kitten Sale
- Co-Ownership Agreement
- Guardian Home Agreement
Clone a starter from the templates list, then edit it to match your specific terms.
Field Types
Fields in your contract can be:
- Text -- Short text (names, registration numbers)
- Date -- Date picker
- Number -- Numeric value
- Currency -- Dollar amount
- Checkbox Group -- Multiple selections (e.g., "Neuter with papers", "Intact with breeding rights")
- Address -- Full mailing address
- Signature -- Signature capture (draw or type)
Auto-Fill Sources
Some fields can automatically fill from existing data:
animal.name-- The animal's registered namecontact.name-- The buyer's namebreeder.name-- Your name
Auto-filled values save time and reduce errors when sending contracts.
Buyer-Completes Fields
Mark a field as "buyer completes" if the buyer should fill it in during signing (for example, their signature or preferred spay/neuter date). All other fields are filled in by you before sending.
Sending a Contract
- Create a new contract from a template
- Link it to a contact (buyer) and optionally an animal or application
- Fill in the breeder-side fields under Contract terms on the contract page (price, breed and anything else you fill), then click Save details
- Click Send. A dialog shows who the contract goes to (the contact's name and email). Click Send to confirm.
- BreederPro emails the buyer a unique signing link. The dialog then shows that link with Copy link and Open as buyer, so you can share it yourself or see exactly what the buyer sees.
The contact needs a valid email address. If it's missing or mistyped, BreederPro won't send and the dialog points you to the contact to fix it.
Every breeder-side field must be filled in before the contract can go out, so the buyer never sees a blank placeholder like "[Purchase Price]". The Send dialog lists any that are still empty. Auto-fill fields (buyer name and email, animal, breeder name, date) are filled from the linked records when you send, if they weren't already.
While the contract is Sent or Viewed, the contract page keeps Copy signing link and Open as buyer buttons, in case the buyer can't find the email.
The contract content is snapshotted at send time. Editing the template later won't change already-sent contracts.
Signing Flow
When the buyer opens the signing link:
- They see the full contract text with your filled-in values (price, animal name and so on) in place
- They fill in any buyer-completes fields; their answers appear in the contract text as they type. Fields BreederPro already knows from the contact, such as their full name, start filled in for them to check
- They draw or type their signature. A drawn signature needs an actual stroke: a single click on the pad doesn't count, and Sign Contract stays disabled until there is ink
- They submit
BreederPro records the signature, the signer's IP address and browser for audit purposes, and generates a PDF of the signed contract. A SHA-256 hash is computed over the content for tamper evidence.
The Download PDF button appears on the contract once the PDF is ready, usually within a few seconds of signing. Until then the contract shows a short note in its place.
Contract Statuses
- Draft -- Not yet sent, still editable
- Sent -- Signing link generated, waiting for buyer
- Viewed -- Buyer has opened the signing link
- Signed -- Buyer completed signing
- Voided -- Contract cancelled (can void draft, sent, or viewed contracts)
