Color Predictor

The Color Predictor shows the coat colours a planned pairing can produce, with the probability of each. It works from the genetics you have recorded for the sire and dam, so the more complete their genotypes are, the narrower the results.

The Color Predictor is available on Basic, Pro and Max. See Plans and billing.

Running a prediction

The Color Predictor is part of a breeding program.

  1. Open the program and go to the Reproduction tab.
  2. Choose the Color Predictor section.
  3. Choose the Sire (Male) and the Dam (Female).
  4. Click Predict Colors.

The sire and dam lists only show animals in that program that are not marked Companion, because companions are not used for breeding. See How animal status works for breeding roles.

Reading the results

  • Predicted Offspring Colors: each possible colour with its probability. The bar shows how likely it is, and the percentage is printed beside it.
  • Genotype Comparison: the sire's and dam's genes side by side, locus by locus. A locus you haven't recorded for a parent shows as Unknown.
  • Incomplete genotype data: if a parent is missing genetic information, BreederPro warns you that the predictions include every possible outcome for those loci. Import a DNA report or enter the genotype to narrow the results.

Using the public calculator

The Cat Color Calculator is a free tool on the BreederPro website. It runs the same genetics but doesn't use your animals, so anyone can try it without signing in.
